Ensuring safe, effective bathing and toileting requires a comprehensive approach addressing posture, transfers, product features, and skin integrity. This session provides a structured assessment framework, covering everything from basic toileting to advanced mobile shower commode chairs. Attendees will explore key product features like tilt, recline, and anterior tilt to enhance postural control and transfers. Skin integrity considerations extend beyond seating to all points of contact. Additionally, caregiver ergonomics are emphasized to reduce strain and injury risk. Through case studies, clinicians will learn to prescribe tailored solutions that evolve with clients’ needs, ensuring safety, dignity, and quality of life.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Recognize a client’s physical abilities and postural control to determine appropriate showering and toileting strategies.
  2. Evaluate client-specific findings to select suitable equipment and environmental modifications that align with their showering and toileting goals.
  3. Develop a structured process and utilize appropriate tools to justify recommendations for shower and toileting equipment and home modifications.
